Express Entry is the federal system for skilled worker immigration. It manages three PR programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. 

Candidates create an online profile and are scored by the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS awards points for factors such as age, education level, work experience, and official language proficiency. (As of 2025, Canada no longer awards extra points for a valid job offer.) 

Periodically, IRCC issues Invitation to Apply (ITA) to the highest-scoring candidates, who can then submit full PR applications. To be competitive, applicants should have a strong profile (e.g. high language scores, Canadian work experience, good education).
