An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is an official evaluation that:

1. Verifies that your foreign education is valid and authentic

2. Compares it to Canadian education standards

3. Determines how many CRS points you get in Express Entry

Who Needs an ECA?

•  Required for Express Entry if you completed education outside Canada
•  Not needed if you studied in Canada
•  Determines Canadian equivalency of your foreign education
•  Directly impacts your CRS score ( 470-520)

Approved ECA Providers (2025 Update)

1. WES (World Education Services)

•     Cost: $250 CAD
•     Processing: 20 business days
•     Most popular choice (fastest and most affordable)

2. Other Recognized Organizations

•     CES (University of Toronto)
•     IQAS
•     ICES
•     ICAS
•     Medical Council of Canada (physicians only)
•     Pharmacy Examining Board (pharmacists only)

Key Considerations :

1. Assessment Differences

•     Example: 3year Bachelor’s + 2year Master’s might be assessed as:
•       WES: “Postgraduate Diploma” (119 CRS points)
•       IQAS: “OneYear Master’s” (126 CRS points)
•     Can mean 715 point CRS difference

2. Choosing Your Provider

•     Check if your university is recognized by WES first
•     If not, consider IQAS or ICES which recognize more institutions
•     Medical/pharmacy degrees must use their respective boards

3. 2025 Processing Updates

•     WES now requires direct verification with institutions (adds 12 weeks)
•     IQAS has expanded recognized universities list
•     All providers have enhanced fraud prevention measures
